On 22 September 2026, Akwa Ibom welcomed Rtn. Chibuzo Asogwa, District Governor of Rotary International District 9142, as he began his official visit to the state.
The visit brought together Rotarians across Akwa Ibom for several days of fellowship, reflection, project visits and conversations about the work being done across the district.
From his first welcome to meetings with individual clubs and visits to community projects, the visit provided an opportunity for the District Governor to connect with Rotarians and see the impact of their service firsthand.
Day 1: The STAR DG Arrives

The first day began with a warm welcome for the District Governor.
Rotarians gathered to receive Rtn. Chibuzo Asogwa, sharing handshakes, smiles and moments of fellowship as he commenced his official engagement with clubs across Akwa Ibom.
The welcome set the tone for the days ahead, a visit centered on connection, service and the people behind Rotary’s work in the state.

But the welcome was only the beginning.
Day 2: Taking Stock at Rotary Club of Uyo Metropolis
On 23 September, the visit moved to clubs in Uyo, including the Rotary Club of Uyo Metropolis.
The day gave members an opportunity to sit together during a Club Assembly and take an honest look at the club’s journey so far in the 2026/2027 Rotary year.
Members reviewed their projects, membership growth, achievements, challenges and the impact being created within the community.

The session was more than a progress report. It provided room for open conversations, questions and ideas about how the club can strengthen its work in the months ahead.
The District Governor also engaged with members, listened to their experiences and shared his vision for Rotary District 9142.
For the club, the visit was a useful reminder that service requires both action and reflection, knowing what has been achieved, understanding what still needs attention and finding better ways to serve.

Day 3: From Floor to Desk
On 24 September, Rotary Clubs across Akwa Ibom came together for the State Basic Education Project, a Back-to-School initiative tagged “From Floor to Desk.”
The project was held at Methodist Primary School, Ukana, Essien Udim, where pupils received essential items to support their return to school.
The intervention provided school bags, writing materials and desks, helping pupils move beyond simply having a place in the classroom to having some of the basic resources needed to learn effectively.

For a child who previously had to sit on the floor, receiving a desk meant more than having furniture. For another child carrying books without a school bag, receiving one offered a simple but important improvement to the school experience.
Each item represented a practical step towards creating a better learning environment.
The project also showed the strength of collaboration. Rotary Clubs across Akwa Ibom worked together to deliver the intervention, extending the reach of their collective service.
The commissioning was witnessed by Rtn. Chibuzo Asogwa, District Governor, Rotary International District 9142, as part of his official visit to the state.
Building Better Foundations

The “From Floor to Desk” project reflects a broader understanding of Basic Education and Literacy.
Getting children into school is only one part of the journey. Children also need a learning environment where they can participate, access basic learning materials and develop the confidence and skills needed for the future.
By providing desks, school bags and writing materials, Rotary Clubs across Akwa Ibom responded to some of these practical needs while supporting the larger goal of improving educational opportunities for children.

A Tour of the State’s Facilities

The District Governor’s visit also included stops at Ibom International Hospital and Arise Park, where he was accompanied by Rotarians from across Akwa Ibom. The visits provided an opportunity to tour the facilities, learn more about the work being done at both locations and enjoy moments of fellowship outside the usual Rotary setting.

It was a relaxed and memorable part of the visit, offering Rotarians time to connect while experiencing some of the state’s notable facilities and attractions together.

A Visit Built Around Service
The District Governor’s visit to Akwa Ibom has provided more than an opportunity for official engagements.
It has created moments for Rotarians to connect, review their work, share ideas and see service projects in action.
From the Club Assembly at the Rotary Club of Uyo Metropolis to the “From Floor to Desk” education project in Essien Udim, the visit has highlighted different sides of Rotary, the fellowship that brings members together, the conversations that strengthen clubs and the service that reaches communities.

As the visit continues, one message remains clear: lasting impact is built when Rotarians work together, listen to their communities and turn shared purpose into action.
The STAR is here. The journey continues.
