The Rotary Club of Uyo Metropolis took its message of service and community impact to the airwaves on Thursday, 6 August 2026, during a special radio engagement on Inspiration FM as part of the club’s Membership and Public Image Advocacy.
The programme provided an opportunity for the club to share the impact of Rotary, highlight its plans for the Rotary year and invite individuals and organisations to partner with the club in creating lasting change.
A Roadmap for the Rotary Year
The club’s President, Rtn. Kalu Sylvester Eke, PHF++, presented the club’s roadmap for the year and highlighted some of the major initiatives planned.
Among the projects announced were a Spelling Bee Competition in September, an Economic Development Initiative in October, which will involve the distribution of quality seeds to farmers and interest-free loans for small business owners, and a Free Medical and Eye Care Outreach in December under Rotary’s Disease Prevention and Treatment area of focus.
The President also called on individuals, organisations and other stakeholders to partner with the Rotary Club of Uyo Metropolis to advance these initiatives and expand their impact.
Rotary Is for Everyone
The club’s Membership Chair, Rtn. James James, addressed the perception that Rotary is only for wealthy people. He explained that Rotary is a community of compassionate people who are willing to make sacrifices to improve the lives of others.
His message highlighted the heart of Rotary membership: a willingness to give, serve and make a difference, regardless of one’s background.
Reflecting on Project 10/10
The Chair of Maternal and Child Health, Rtn. Idorenyin Nyong, PHF, also spoke about the recently concluded Project 10/10 Maternal and Child Health Initiative, which reached ten Local Government Areas and strengthened maternal and child healthcare services across communities in Akwa Ibom State.
The conversation reinforced the club’s commitment to supporting healthier communities and contributing to efforts that save the lives of mothers and newborns.
Amplifying the Rotary Story
The District Public Image Chair, Rtn. Joel Augustine, highlighted Rotary’s global reach and explained how individual members become part of a worldwide network working to create meaningful and sustainable change.
Rounding off the engagement, the Club Public Image Chair, Rtn. Gbaa Charity Dooshima, encouraged listeners to follow the Rotary Club of Uyo Metropolis across its social media platforms for updates on projects, activities and opportunities to serve.
The radio engagement reinforced an important message: Rotary is an invitation to serve.
